SKYPE ON AMD64:
by Francesco Palmisano

skype

The Linux version of Skype exsits for 32 bit distro only.
Fortunately Linux offers the possibility to use 32bit programs in a 64 bit linux system too.

So, with your packages manager (like Synaptic) install:

ia32libs
lib32gcc1
lib32ncureses5
lib32stdc++6
lib32z1
libc6-i386
linux32
nspluginwrapper

Download Skype here.
Copy the file into your home directory and uncompress it.
Now go inside skype folder and give the command:

./skype

or, if you have an error with command:

linux32 ./skype

If you want, you can create a desktop's link to skype command.
This procedure works fine for 1.4 version of skype.
